Which Frequently Forgotten Simple Action May Be The Difference Between Job Interview Success And Failure?

Hello, as a pro recruiter It's my job to try and motivate my candidates to use a handful of important techniques to help make certain they maximise their interview effectiveness.

One of the easiest approaches is to always follow up every job interview with an interview follow up thank you email from you for your interviewer. At the most basic level this basically needs to thank them for his or her time and the courtesy shown to you on your trip to their place of work.

Straightforward, right...

Well, less than half of job hunters make time to thank their job interviewer following the interview.

Is this Interview suicide?

Probably not on its own, however it is a missed chance to stay ahead of everyone else, to demonstrate that you are someone that will go the extra mile, and if you are more marketing savvy; you will have also missed the chance to represent examples of the benefits your work will offer the job interviewer.

As a recruiter, a middle man, or agent in the employment process, it is not really necessary for people that I interview to mail me an interview follow up thank you email. Nevertheless once in a while someone takes the time and bother to send me a nice thank you for my time and effort email.

Plus it makes no difference how they could have done at interview; their basic action of mailing me an interview thank you e mail makes me feel better. It is a long established psychological response; men and women like to receive thanks for something they have done.

I at this point think that I now owe them something for carrying out something simple that they did not have to do. Sounds funny, but it is true, I most certainly will because of this attempt to pay them back in someway for his or her additional efforts.

Maybe I am a freak and react in a different way to other folks; however I do not think so, nevertheless I do not suggest you have to say thanks to every recruiter that you meet (although perhaps you should get them more on your side?), but please post your interviewer a thank you e mail right after every job interview.

I personally feel a post interview thank you email is fine, rather than mailing a hand written letter. This is my opinion, and I recognize other people disagree, and would point out a hand written job interview thank you letter shows even more effort, which I accept it does. I personally think it usually is a little to formal, or old fashioned for our modern days.

My own suggestion is mail your interviewer a post job interview thank you email, on the evening of your job interview, so that it can be awaiting them within their in box first thing following morning.
