Upgrade Your RV With LED Lighting Gadgets

If you do a lot of boondocking (no hookups while camping), then you know battery is one of the main things you must think about, especially if you need a small battery bank. One great way to save a lot of power is to change your existing incandescent lighting to LED lighting. LED stands for light emitting diode and offers light in a very different way than incandescent or fluorescent lamps sources. The biggest good thing about a boon-docking is that LEDs will need very little power to work, so you won't have to be so conscious of switching off lights when you don't need them.

How much power can you save by going LED? In an ordinary travel trailer of say 27 feet with a super slide and a couple of bunk cots, you may have upwards of 20 12 watt incandescent bulbs. If you decide to have all of them on at one time, you would be getting around 20 amps of DC power. In a few hours, your single group 24 12-volt battery would be near dead. In case you had two batteries, you wouldn't have much left to finish out a 2-day weekend without having a battery recharge.

Now if you were to replace every inner incandescent bulb with this fictitious travel trailer using a 24 LED array warm shade lamp, each drawing 190 mA, the total power consumption drops to 3.8 amps, over 5 times less power consumption. You wouldn't possibly replace every incandescent bulb with a 24 LED array lamp however you could and if you did, you would be using 5 times less energy, even if you had every light turned on.

Another cool LED mod is to match a LED rope light beneath your RVs countertop. Many upscale RVs have this feature as a standard option but there is no point you can't have this classy look either. First, have somebody help you test fit the rope for length, ensuring you could have enough for the whole countertop. And then get some double-sided tape then stick it to the cabinet or underneath the countertop where you want the rope to run. If you have any remaining rope, drill a hole the size of the rope's dimension and run the excess through the hole. Just glue the rope to the tape and press strongly. You can also add up a switch to manage the rope power as well.

Outside compartments are also a great candidate for LED lights. These can be driven through a pin switch so that when you open up the compartment door, the light turns on, and then off when you shut the door. The color of the LED light is not so significant as is the location of the light. Storage compartments are usually rectangular in shape, so try and place the LEDs near the corners of the compartment. This manner, you will get the most light to all parts of the storage space.

Finally, upgrading your RVs outside lighting can make for a very clear look as well as improve health and safety going to the road. LED porch, badge, clearance, backup, turn, and running lights are all prospects for LED replacement. Fortunately for you, many businesses, like Bargman for example, now make direct replacement fixtures that include anything you need to perform the update. Just be sure to budget enough since total outdoor lighting replacement can cost in to hundreds of dollars.
