Here's why I believe Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock and roll band ever: First of all, John Bonham was the best rock and roll drummer ever to walk the face of this planet, and that's an informed opinion from a former professional drummer.
That fact is continually demonstrated in the astounding depth of his recorded work. He had total independence with all four limbs, he slammed his drums harder than everyone else, and he did it with speed and total precision, never once dropping the beat.
It influenced a host of imitators who had been able to imitate the sound of his snare drum, but only with a simple back beat. There's not one single drummer alive or dead who is able to begin to touch John's power, creativeness, speed, precision, and technical splendor.
Secondly, Jimmy Page has been one of the best rock guitarists ever, right from his earliest days as a session player as well as the beginning of his actual public stardom in the Yardbirds. I believe that Jimmy is the most brilliantly prolific of all of the excellent rock and roll guitarists in rock music history.
