How To Create A Model Sailboat

I have always liked sailboats and everything that's related to them. They have been my passion every since I was a youngster.

The first model sailboats I had were big and colorful. They weren't actually built following a particular vessel, nor did they preserve a coherent scale. They were meant to be toys and entertain me, not a genuine representation of a vessel. These model sailboats were produced of plastic that was resistant to bad treatment. The sails were produced of the identical type of cheap plastic material that market hand bags are made of, so that they could be simply replaced if damaged. And boy, did I tear mine a lot.

As I grew up, I started to gather additional genuine model sailboats, which were centered on the sailboats I saw in the bay which was close to where I lived. Unlike my first model sailboats, these sailboats had a size which they respected, in order to maintain the ratios of a real sailboat. Those sailboats weren't they kind you had to put together; rather, they came already assembled and ready to play. I realized later on that many of these weren't meant to be put on water. Instead they came with a foundation and were meant to be placed on display. This was a bizarre concept to me at the time, which led to some of those model sailboats sinking and staying lost in the bottom of the gulf.

I eventually graduated from these model sailboats to the kind that I had to assemble and paint by myself. They had been a blast, and I experienced tons of fun using them. I started with basic types and worked my way up to very complex model sailboats that incorporated tiny engines and even some welding.

I suppose I must not have been that bad at the passion, as my father liked one of them so much, he put it on display on top of our chimney. I was so pleased with it, and I never ever forgot to casually point out it whenever someone came to visit. It wasn't until then that I realized why some model sailboats were designed for display, and not for putting them in the water.

My greatest success was when I managed to make one that has been remote controlled. I suppose it was the first sailboat during my adult life in which I enjoyed more playing with, than putting together.

I do not assemble model sailboats any longer. I finally discovered a much more expensive passion. I purchased myself a real sailboat, which takes much more of my time and dollars that my model sailboats ever did.
