Exactly Why Your Child Needs To Wear A Swim Nappy In The Water
If you think about water safety the first thing that usually will pop into your head is drowning. Actually it is without a doubt one of the highest risks when swimming but there is more. Germs can infect pool water and can cause RWI - recreational water illnesses.
These illnesses are spread by swallowing pool water that has been contaminated. Contamination is spread when someone's waste gets in the water.
It is known that the germs causing these RWIs get wiped out by the chlorine in the pool water but that doesn't happen immediately after an accident. Some germs like Crypto can live more than a day in chlorinated water.
As infants and some toddlers are not fully potty-trained most pools insist that they wear a swim diaper approved by the CDC.
Swimming diapers are not like normal diapers as they do not absorb water. What they are supposed to do is to contain any solid waste in. Though it is true that swimming diaper do not guarantee non-leakage on 100% if used with some precautions they will block the germ spread.
Parents can pick from disposable and washable swim diapers to buy. The two have their advantages and downsides but I personally suggest using the reusables.
The reason I favor reusable swim diapers is they are much cheaper in the long run though the first cost may seem huge. In fact your infant will need only two or three washable swim diapers so you can change them if there has been a poo accident.
You can wash them in the laundry with other clothes and towels. I wouldn't encourage that you put your baby in a regular cloth diaper cover. Usually it will do the same work but the chlorine in the water will ruin the fabric.
If you despise the thought of washing a soiled diaper than you should go for the disposable alternative. Disposable swim diapers come in packs as regular and you throw them away after each use. I wouldn't advise using a sposie more than once though it can last a couple of laundry cycles.
The downside of using disposable swimming diapers is they will need more space in your bag and they are pretty uneconomical.
When you go shopping for swim diapers you should keep some essential checkpoints in your mind.
A great swim diaper should be comfy, easy to put on and pull off when soiled and should be made of a light fabric that won't give your little one a rash. My suggestion is to choose an adjustable swimming diaper, there are options with Velcro, snaps and strings so it fits snugly the baby's body.
Both reusable and disposable swimming diapers have a great variety of colors and models to choose from. Especially if you have a baby girl you may find it tough to choose only one or two as they are so cute.
