The two-stage lumbar assistance system is built-into the backrest of a premium-quality T back seats. It uses the air supply from the seat's built-in air compressor or the machine's air supply to fully inflate, supporting the operator's lumbar area and creating a buffer against shock and jarring.
MMT will be setting up the lumbar system into the premium quality ISRI seating variety, currently the only product on the market to have an adjustable back rest that can be angled for increased operator comfort and support.
Managing Director Garry Spouge, which started MMT in 1992, said the company had polished and started to supply the innovative seating product in the last 12 months, as demand for safer and more comfortable seating technology in the underground mining field had grown.
"Safety is the main priority for all mining companies around Australia, and that obviously includes employee safety and wellbeing, which was the starting point for us with regards to building this lumbar support system," Mr Spouge said.
"Sore backs are usually one of the most common reasons for lost time injuries in the workplace, and our back support design targets this particular, preventing back accidental injuries and ultimately on-the-job fatigue."
Mr Spouge said that MMT had previously investigated and manufactured the same T backed seats for underground exploration equipment, but the prototype didn't have an adjustable lumbar support.
"We're really pleased with our latest style and currently the feedback we've gained is the fact that it's reducing injuries and fatigue.
"And as well as increasing operator comfort and safety, it additionally increases seat life through reducing wear and tear and encouraging correct posture," he added
